Under the same diameter, the lower the nominal tensile strength of a wire rope, the more wires per strand, and the finer the wire diameter, the better its flexibility, but the more prone it is to wear. Conversely, the thicker the wire diameter per strand, the worse the flexibility of the wire rope, but the stronger its wear resistance. Therefore, different types of wire ropes have their specific applications. In lifting operations, the selection of wire ropes can follow these principles:
(1) 6X19 wire rope is suitable for making guy ropes, cables, and lifting slings, mainly used in places with small bending loads or light wear.
(2) 6X37 wire rope is suitable for binding various objects and equipment in lifting operations, as well as for threading pulley blocks and making lifting slings, especially suitable for situations where the rope is bent.
(3) 6X61 wire rope is often used for binding various objects. Its rope rigidity is relatively low, making it easy to bend and suitable for places with low stress. Furthermore, single-lay wire ropes have a flat and soft surface, excellent resistance to bending fatigue, and are relatively durable. However, it should be noted that the strands at the broken ends are prone to loosening, and they are susceptible to rotation and twisting when suspending heavy objects. Therefore, this type of wire rope is usually not used alone in lifting operations. Interlocking wire ropes, on the other hand, are a common choice for lifting and hoisting operations.
