Introduction
Regular wire rope inspection is the most critical step to avoid sudden breakage and lifting accidents. Even high‑quality steel wire ropes will degrade under repeated tension, friction and harsh environments. Key Items for Wire Rope Inspection
1. Broken Wires
Count visible broken outer wires. Check for concentrated breaks in a short length. Once the number of broken wires exceeds the discard standard, the rope must be taken out of service immediately.
2. Wear & Diameter Reduction
Measure the actual rope diameter with a caliper. Surface abrasion flattens outer strands and reduces the original diameter. Serious wear greatly lowers the Breaking Strength vs. Working Load Limit (WLL) of the whole rope.
3. Corrosion Check

4. Deformation Damage

Examine end fittings, thimbles, clips and swaged sockets. Loose, cracked or corroded terminals are common failure points.

3. Mark damaged positions and record inspection dates.
